Mouth odour
Hello, I am posting this question on behalf of my relative. She has mouth odor and consulted a dentist. Doctor has prescribed her chlorhexidine mouthwash and ornigel and Iceek tooth paste for 1 month use and asked to visit the clinic if mouth odor persist even after a month. Does this mouthwash cause stain? She has a doubt whether mouth odor will go away after a month or not. What are all the steps to be taken to get rid of mouth odor permanently? What mouth washes can be used on daily basis?

Hello See whatever the doctor has prescribed is absolutely fine, but all this would be helpful only after getting a round of teeth scaling done. The doctor must have definitely told to visit the clinic and get teeth cleaning done because that is the most common reason why the patient feels bad odour from mouth. So if that has not been done kindly advise your relative to visit a dental clinic, get a round of teeth cleaning and polishing done. After that the prescribed mouthwash and the toothpaste can be used. Definitely there would be improvement, but it will take time and without scaling there is not going to be an improvement for long.

Hi, question for you- Had doctor determined the reason of bad odour? Was scaling and polishing done? Because bad odour can b of multiple reasons(upset tummy, plaque and tartar deposit,  caries in tooth, gum problem and many more).Firstly dentist will have to treat the cause of bad odour. Chlorhexidine mostly dnt cause any stains. You can use any alcohol free mouthwash for regular use. Get scaling and polishing done by dentist twice a year.Ornigreat gel is for gum problem.
Next Steps
Ask dentist to explain cause and treatment plan that he/she is following for bad odour and follow that.Your friend will b fine

Mouth odor is caused because of many reasons. - poor oral hygiene/ tartar build up/tooth decay or abcess - improper cleaning or neglecting the tongue - high carbohydrate/ sugar content in the diet - sinusitis/ throat infections - diabetes - stomach related issues Chlorhexidine mouthwashes do cause staining in the long run but not in a short term. I am assuming that a dental scaling / cleanup was done before prescribing the mouthwash and ornigel. If it is not done it should be done to remove the accumalated tartar. Mouth odor will be in control till she is using a mouthwash as it helps in masking the odor also along with killing the bacteria. Mouth odor will be in control till all the steps for oral hygiene are followed on a regular basis there is no permanent cure. A particular mouth wash can be prescribed only after in person examination.
Next Steps
complete the course of one month and visit the dentist as advised
Health Tips
please check if there is any underlying condition like diabetes. Also smoking should be avoided if the patient is a smoker
