MDR Lymph TB: Risk to My Partner?
I have been diagnosed with MDR tuberculosis affecting my lymph nodes (extrapulmonary/lymph node TB). I started my MDR-TB treatment about 3 months ago and have been taking my medications regularly as prescribed. I am worried about whether I can still infect people around me, especially my partner. We have kissed a few times and have had sexual intercourse. Is MDR lymph node TB transmitted through kissing, close contact, or sexual activity? Should my partner undergo any tests or take any precautions? I do not want to put anyone at risk, so I would appreciate guidance on whether I am still contagious after 3 months of treatment and what precautions, if any, I should continue to follow. Thank you.

Extra pulmonary TB is usually not contagious and is considered to be a reactivation from an earlier primary infection/exposure. That said, investigations for pulmonary TB are always recommended before ruling out. Your partner can test for IGRA based TB blood test to rule out latent and active infections.

Your diagnosis is Multiple drugs resistance TB. It means that the drugs are not working. The new drugs given to you are more powerful but there is no surety that it will work 100%. Do not get depressed. Take medicines regularly. You have a lot of chances of full recovery. Now about your partner. If he gets TB from you then it will be MDR. So urgently get him checked. No compliance please.

No you are absolutely not infectious to anyone. Only if there are lung lesions it is contagious, that in the initial 2weeks of starting treatment. Now you are not contagious in anyway. But as you both live together if he finds any of these findings - swellings around neck or axilla, loss of appetite or loss of weight, low grade fevers, cough. Better to get him tested as well for TB.
Next Steps
If any findings are seen, get sputum testing for TB or Lymphnode FNAC for TB

Hello. I understand your concern, and it's good that you're taking your MDR-TB treatment regularly. Your question about whether lymph node MDR-TB can still spread to your partner after 3 months of treatment depends on several factors, including whether there is any lung involvement, your test reports, and your current treatment response. I can review your history and reports and guide you about the risk of transmission, precautions, and whether your partner needs any evaluation.
Next Steps
Please start a teleconsultation with me so I can assess your case properly and provide personalized advice. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
