Suspected MDR TB of Ileum
I was diagnosed with Intestinal Tuberculosis of Ileum/ IC Junction or Crohn Disease. The Gastroenterologist put me on AKT after colonoscopy but stopped two of the four first line drugs namely Pyrizinamide and Combutol after 2 months since I developed swelling on knee and ankle due to increased uric acid level. And after that the pain started so we changed the doctor as my first doctor would keep on suggesting pain killers, now the second doctor & IDSpecialist at hospital in Hyderabad fears that I have developed MDR TB, he performed Colonoscopy and a host of tests and said that there are more chances of TB than CD and suggested to meet Infectious Disease Specialist, so now we are waiting for a culture report which takes 2 months. So IDS wants to see this reports first before putting me on any Anti TB Drug.Meanwhile I have lost significant weight, please suggest me some ways to gain healthy weight. As of now, my doctor has asked me to have less fibre and small meals. What should we do?

Wait for culture and sensitivity report. anti TB regimen will be decided by this and it will ratify the problem of MDR TB . Often TB and. Crohn's disease coexist. You may use some protein supplements like B-Protin to gain weight.

Hi i empathise your concern. The main issue here is correct diagnosis has not been achieved yet.(which can occur sometimes as complexing symptoms can occur together and can even cause best docs a dilemma). In most cases docs like to go as per symptomalogy for diagnosis even if tests dont suggest otherwise as tests can sometimes be false positive . Secondly i doubt if cultures take 2 months to come (kindly confrm as should not take more than 2 weeks) Thirdly regarding gaining weight(both intestinal tb n cd can cause significant weight loss/digestive trouble etc)you need to focus on nutrition rather than portion or quantity as too much quantity can cause retching /vomiting/loose motions.Smaller but healthy meals at regular intervals. Here a simple guide 1.Smaller meals at regular intervals. 2 Stick to vegetarian meals  (greens etc) Easy to digest than meat or complex protein. 3.Avoid alcohol or outside food in any case 4.Can take a multivit (after consulting your physician ) 5.You can take homoeopathy as a supplement to strengthen your immunity. 6 Hydrate yourself well to maintain gut motility. Hope this helps and contact for further questions.
