Painkillers and antibiotics are only temporary relief. The tooth usually needs one of these definitive treatments:
1. Root Canal Treatment (RCT) + Crown (if the tooth can be saved)
2. Extraction (if the tooth is badly damaged or the patient prefers removal)
Without one of these treatments, the pain often returns once the medications stop working.
Why did stomach pain and vomiting occur?
The medicines prescribed include:
* Enzoflam (painkiller)
* Augmentin 625 (antibiotic)
* Pan-D
* Vizylac
The symptoms of:
* Stomach pain
* Loose stools (5 times)
* Vomiting
* Weakness
are commonly seen with:
* Antibiotic-associated diarrhea (Augmentin is a frequent cause)
* Gastric irritation from painkillers such as Enzoflam
Since the treating dentist advised stopping the medicines, that was a reasonable step if the side effects were significant.
What should be done next?
1. Contact the dentist again and inform them about the stomach symptoms.
2. Get an intraoral X-ray (IOPA) or RVG if not already done.
3. Decide between:
* RCT + Crown (save the tooth)
* Extraction (remove the tooth)
4. Drink plenty of fluids and ORS if diarrhea continues.
5. Seek urgent medical care if:
* Fever develops
* Facial swelling appears
* Difficulty swallowing or opening the mouth occurs
* Persistent vomiting or severe dehydration occurs

Augmentin 625 Duo (Amoxicillin + Clavulanic acid): This is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. A very common and well-documented side effect of Clavulanic acid is antibiotic-associated diarrhea and stomach upset, as it alters the gut flora and increases intestinal motility.
Enzoflam (Diclofenac + Paracetamol + Serratiopeptidase): This is a strong non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) combination. NSAIDs are notorious for causing gastric irritation, mucosal inflammation, and stomach ache.
Home care :
• Rehydration is Critical: You need oral rehydration therapy (ORS) or fluids like coconut water and buttermilk to restore lost electrolytes and combat weakness.
• Bland Diet: Take a soft, easily digestible diet (like curd rice, bananas, or porridge). The curd will also act as a natural probiotic to help restore gut bacteria.
• Continue Probiotics: You were prescribed Vizylac (a probiotic). While other medicines are stopped, continuing a probiotic can help settle the disturbed gut flora.
Consult a General Physician: Since you have developed gastrointestinal distress (possible acute gastritis or antibiotic-associated enteritis) and severe weakness, they should see a general physician to manage the stomach issues and evaluate if anti-diarrheal medication or intravenous fluids are needed
Also follow up with the dentist
Tell them to re examine the tooth
And tell them about the symptoms and gastrointestinal issues you are facing. Ask them to prescribe gut friendly medications and plan the treatment accordingly
