PCOS causes irregular periods. It all depends whether ovulation occurs in a cycle or not. If ovulation doesn't occur, there is unrestricted action of oestrogen, endometrium becomes thick and bleeding becomes heavy. If ovulation has occured, the endometrium growth is controlled by progesterone and bleeding becomes less.
