Could be due to: 1. Side stitch (exercise-related cramp) – common while running, especially after eating. 2. Gas or bloating – trapped gas can cause sharp pain under ribs. 3. Spleen strain – temporary blood flow increase during exercise. 4. Muscle strain – from overuse or poor posture while running. Advice- • Avoid heavy meals before running • Warm up properly • Breathe deeply while running

Pain just below the left ribs can happen for a few reasons. Common causes include: Gastric issues like acidity, gas, or indigestion. Muscle strain in the chest or abdominal wall, especially if it worsens with movement or while running. Stitch pain (exercise-related temporary pain) which is common when running, especially if running after a meal or without proper warm-up. Less commonly, it could be related to the spleen, pancreas, or heart, but those usually cause stronger or associated symptoms.
Next Steps
Note if the pain is related to meals, stress, or exercise. Avoid heavy meals before running and do proper warm-ups. Try lifestyle changes for acidity (small meals, avoiding spicy/oily foods, not lying down immediately after eating).
Health Tips
you need consultation If the pain is persistent, worsening, associated with vomiting, fever, weight loss, or shortness of breath. If it interferes with your daily routine despite simple measures.

Hi, Pain just below the left ribs can have a few different causes, and it’s something I come across fairly often in clinical practice. From what you’ve described — especially since it sometimes comes on while running — here are a few possibilities we might consider: Gas or acidity: This is one of the most common causes. Sometimes trapped gas or gastritis can cause sharp or dull pain in that area. Muscle strain: If you’re physically active, even something as simple as overuse or a minor strain in the muscles between your ribs can cause discomfort, especially when you move or breathe deeply. Spleen-related issues: The spleen is located in the upper left part of your abdomen. While it’s not a frequent cause of pain, anything from mild enlargement to reduced blood flow during intense exercise can trigger symptoms. Colon-related discomfort: The bend in the large intestine near the spleen (called the splenic flexure) can sometimes trap gas or get irritated, which can feel like rib pain. Side stitch from running: If the pain mostly happens when you run, it might be a side stitch — a harmless but annoying cramp under the ribs. That said, recurring or activity-related pain shouldn't be ignored. It’s best we get a full picture through a clinical evaluation, and if needed, we can do some basic tests to rule out anything serious.

Need more information on your eating pattern and the daily activities that you do. But in general - if there’s pain below your left ribs in your abdomen it could be one of the following. Gastritis - if so avoid skipping meals, do not eat spicy oily or outside foods and consult for further medications, if you feel the pain is more upon doing physical activities then it could be muscle spasm and if it’s over your ribs something called costochondritis which is related to the bone, cartilage and muscles of the ribs. Make sure you do proper warm and cool down exercises before your work out and drink at least 3 litres of water with 2 bananas per day to replenish your potassium.
