Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams Stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. repeat 10 times, twice a day.

I am not sure what you mean by knee gap. If she has knee arthritis / needs to consult a orthopaedic surgeon for further management.

You don't have to medicalize the knee gap. All joints will have some gap between the contacting surfaces. Due to ageing the gap tends to reduce, but it is nothing to bother about. Usually, strengthening the quadriceps muscle and maintaining the physical activity and treating the pain source if it is emanating from the muscles are the general line of treatment in physiotherapy. If you meet a physio, he should be able to help your mom.
