Intake of whey depends upon your goal and body type. It is always good to natural food for protein intake like egg whites, veggies, sprouts, chicken, etc. But it is ok to take whey when doing workout in gym. Keep in mind to take whey isolate instead of whey concentrate. Whey isolate is good quality protein. See for ingredients list. Also avoid soy protein.
Whey protein can be a good source of protein in diet. It can be taken natural form or in chemical formula... muscle mass build should be more from natural sources of protein.

It's good for somebody & hamful to someone but at the same time it has some precautions & require some customised exercise plan. It's the common trend among my patients pool, to have medicine from word of mouth, don't spoil personal hygiene by taking unprescribed items randomly.
Take food in regular intervals but lower the quantity,u r having presently , walk with abdominal belt to shape your belly & to increase BMR.
