Couple of months ago, a dull strain type pain started on my left ribs, slightly below breast. It didn't go after cold hot therapy, my upper back started hurting too, and then arms, very inconsistent, it comes and goes. Recently arms started paining a lot, like a dull pain, consistent and making arms numb at times. I never in history of 30 years had a pain in back, but this time it simply doesn't go. Worse part is sometimes, my left rib muscles get sudden stuck like I have to deep breathe and it relaxes immediately. But why is this happening?

Hi, this is Dr Supreetha , a complete evaluation is required to diagnose the course and provide the appropriate treatment
Sometimes the intercoastal pain maybe due to costochondritis , or even a simple is gastritis, or an intercostal muscle strain. So proper diagnosis is effective in treatment.
If the radiating pain is from the cervical region (neck), then it may also induce pain in upper chest , back and the whole hand.Needs to come and meet in person for treatment
If the pain is due to costochondritis, or intercostal muscle strain The doctor usually prescribes a muscle relaxant along with which you can start breathing exercises.

You need proper assessment to know the exact cause of the pain.
Consult in person with physiotherapist or neurologist for proper assessment and treatment.
The intercostals (small rib muscles) could be irritated. Otherwise due to general postural dysfunction the thoracic or cervical region could be referring pain.
You would have to see a physiotherapist for diagnosis and treatment.
