Impacted tooth surgical question!
Hello everyone! So i just got my stiches removed today! Had a surgical wisdom molar extraction a week ago! The doc says its all good, its healing well, no dry socket, and everything looks nice! BUT , i still have pain ! I have to take like 2 painkillers a day- idk if this is normal? They say it takes a week to heal right? Iam at day 8 today! Why do I still have to take a pain killer and why is the area still painful and a bit sore? I also see a small hole at the extraction site but the doc says it will fill up on its own and its not a dry socket! I had an impacted tooth removed and it was surgical ! Any inputs on when will i feel completely normal??

Hello, it's most probably normal. Healing after surgical extractions can be painful and take longer to heal. On the other side, there might be infection involved. I will need to know more information regarding the same, you can book a consultation with me.

Experiencing pain and seeing a hole after 8 days of surgical impacted tooth removal could indicate several issues: 1. Dry Socket or a tooth piece leftover. To rule out this factor get an x-ray done and share a clear photo of the area please. 2. Infection: If bacteria enter the extraction site, it can cause an infection, leading to pain, swelling, and the formation of pus. The appearance of a hole could be due to tissue breakdown caused by the infection. 3. Delayed Healing: Sometimes, the extraction site may take longer to heal due to various factors such as underlying medical conditions, poor oral hygiene, or smoking. It's essential that you contact your dentist or oral surgeon for an evaluation. They will be able to assess the situation, determine the cause of the pain and the appearance of the hole, and provide appropriate treatment. Treatment may include cleaning the area, applying medication, and possibly prescribing antibiotics or pain medication. It's crucial not to ignore these symptoms, as prompt intervention can prevent further complications and promote healing.

If you can see a hole then there’s a chance of any leftover part of tooth. To confirm that you need to get your X-ray done. Thats the only way to confirm. Apart from that you should do warm saline rinses as maximum as possible, those gonna help you recover faster. Pain killers are not solution . Get your self correctly diagnosed, because no holes are seen after 3-5 days of extraction.
Next Steps
Get your Xray done.

Hi, Some extractions take longer to heal. The hole that you are mentioning about will close slowly. Till then be careful while eating and make sure to rinse your mouth thoroughly after every meal. If you still have pain after 5 days, meet the dentist for a review.
