Sudden head shaking before sleep might be a variation of hypnic jerks, brief involuntary muscle contractions that occur during sleep onset, often triggered by stress or fatigue. It could also indicate myoclonic jerks, sleep-related movement disorders, or in rare cases, neurological issues like tremors or dystonia. Practicing good sleep hygiene, managing stress, and relaxation techniques can help. However, if the shaking persists, worsens, or occurs outside of sleep with other symptoms like confusion or weakness, consult a doctor They may conduct tests, such as a sleep study, to identify and address any underlying conditions.
