First time BP detected.
My Father's bp is 162/87. He never had high bp before. There were no symptoms as such and this reading came twice during a routine check up. The first one was 155/86. Doctor has suggested Stamlo-5. For how long does he have to take this medication? Please suggest.

Ask him for salt restriction less than 5g per day. Brisk walk 30 minutes per day. Check his bp while resting for few minutes. Let's monitor and then decide.

At your father's age there was no need to interfere with a reading of 155/86 or 162/87 mm Hg BP. Some investigations were required. That's all.
