Hello doctors,
My son is 2 years old, weighs 11.7kg, today while taking bath he was uncomfortable, then noticed my gold ring is chipped a little and it has scratched him, later in afternoon he's gotta temperature of 99.1, which then elevated to 99.9, I had given him paracetamol. What should I do now. Are these scratches given him the temperature??!! He has no cold so far, just occasional cough.. does these scratches resulted in fever??! Should I go for a pediatrician consult?!

Small scratches won't cause fever unless it gets infected or the pain is unbearable. He might be coming down with an infection. Visit a pediatrician if fever continues or any new symptoms develop.

Fever is less likely to be due to the scratches and more likely to be viral fever.
Continue with paracetamol whenever temperature is above 99.5 in armpit every 6th hrly.
Consult pediatrician if fever persists beyond 3 days
The scratch is not related to the fever episode. This could be the evolving viral infection which later might present with cough, cold or loose motions. For now just continue with syp calpol (250 mg/5ml) 4 ml every 6 hourly or if the armpit level temperature comes at 99.5 degrees or more.
If the fever persists for more than 5 days then antibiotic will be started after certain blood and urine tests.
