Feeling constipated
I am unable to pass the stool as soon as I wake up since a month. I take tea and biscuits, then I am able to pass it, but with mild straining. Still I don't feel fully relieved. I have been taking 500mg of calcium since 2 months. Water intake is also around 4-5 glasses. My daily meal contains, tea and 2 biscuits in the morning, then a simple breakfast, 2 chappatis with vegetables in lunch, and then a bowl of dal at night. I feel, my diet's less. What to do, I am in tension!!

Please don’t worry—not passing stool immediately upon waking is completely normal, and your mild constipation is largely due to low water intake, low dietary fiber, and your current medications (such as calcium and blood pressure tablets). Start by increasing your water intake to 8–10 glasses daily and adding more fiber-rich vegetables, salads, and whole fruits to your meals. Please book a consultation with me so we can review your medications and safely tailor your treatment plan.

Your symptoms may be related to constipation, low fluid and fibre intake, and calcium supplementation can sometimes worsen constipation. Try increasing water intake and dietary fibre gradually, along with regular physical activity. Include fruits, vegetables, whole grains and adequate fluids in your diet. If symptoms persist, or if you have severe abdominal pain, vomiting, blood in stool, unexplained weight loss or significant change in bowel habits, please consult me as soon as possible

This sounds like constipation related to low fibre and fluids, but your blood pressure medicines may also contribute. Increase water gradually to 1.5–2 L/day if you have no fluid restriction, and add fruit, vegetables, oats or isabgol. Avoid relying on tea and biscuits as breakfast. Please book a Practo consult or visit me at Synergy Multispeciality Hospital, Miraj if this persists, or sooner for pain, vomiting or blood in stool.
Next Steps
Increase fluids and fibre gradually; seek review if constipation continues beyond a few days or if pain, vomiting or blood appears.

A month of straining with incomplete relief is uncomfortable, but it's usually related to diet, fluids, or medicines rather than anything serious.
Next Steps
Increase your water and add more fibre through fruits, vegetables and whole grains for the next couple of weeks.
Health Tips
Your calcium tablet and blood pressure medicine can also slow digestion, so please mention this to your doctor.

4-5 glasses of water are very less than the recommended 8-10 glasses. Please consume more water. Having biscuits and tea in the morning is absolutely not recommended and not healthy. Biscuits could be increasing your constipation. Your calcium intake has no relation to this.
Next Steps
Include more fibre in your diet, avoid biscuits in the morning, light exercise and stretching in the morning. Give me detailed history of your weight and diet on Practo app and i can help you more.
Health Tips
Have pumpkin seeds, sunflower Seeds, chia seeds, preferably soaked. Fruits can include Guava apple banana for good digestion and fibre. Along with the bowl of dal at night add some boiled vegetables. I am afraid your protein intake is also very less which can impose problems in the future. Please consult personally with me on Practo app now.

Constipation with straining and incomplete evacuation for 1 month. Calcium 500mg, low water (4-5 glasses) and low fiber diet can make stools hard - fairly common.
Next Steps
Don't stop calcium on your own. For a personalized diet + supplement review, you can consult me here on Practo. Happy to help.
Health Tips
Try 2-2.5L water/day if allowed, add fruits/vegetables/whole grains gradually, fixed toilet time after breakfast, avoid prolonged straining. Seek care if blood in stool, severe pain or no motion >3 days.
