My current weight is 56 kilograms and bmi is 21.9 which is in a healthy range but I have huge belly fat , I'm worried if it's visceral fat . How can I lose belly fat and at the same time preserve my muscles. Do I need a calorie deficit. I workout for 5 days cardio plus light strength training.

BMI is normal but there is a tummy/abdominal belly, it is often due to excess abdominal fat, low muscle mass, poor posture, stress, or bloating. Diet Tips ✅ Increase protein: dal, paneer, tofu, soy chunks, curd, sprouts ✅ Eat plenty of vegetables and salads ✅ Reduce sugar, sweets, soft drinks, bakery items, and fried foods ✅ Avoid overeating at dinner ✅ Stay well hydrated Exercise ✅ Brisk walking 30–45 minutes daily ✅ Strength training 3–4 times/week (squats, lunges, push-ups, resistance exercises) ✅ Core exercises: plank, dead bug, bird-dog Lifestyle ✅ Sleep 7–8 hours daily ✅ Manage stress ✅ Avoid excessive alcohol Important There is no medicine or exercise that specifically burns belly fat only. Belly fat reduces when overall body fat decreases and muscle mass improves

As a Physiatrist or PMR Consultant: Your BMI (21.9) is within the healthy range, so the goal should not be major weight loss but body recomposition—reducing body fat while maintaining or increasing muscle mass. A few important points: ✅ BMI does not tell us where fat is located. A protruding abdomen may be due to visceral fat, subcutaneous fat, poor posture, bloating, weak core muscles, or a combination of these. Measuring waist circumference is more useful than BMI for assessing central obesity. ✅ Spot reduction is not possible. Belly fat decreases when overall body fat decreases. ✅ A small calorie deficit is usually required for fat loss, but avoid aggressive dieting. A deficit of approximately 300–500 kcal/day is generally sufficient while preserving muscle mass. ✅ Increase protein intake (around 1.2–1.6 g/kg/day) to help maintain muscle during fat loss. ✅ Prioritize progressive strength training. Five days of cardio with only light strength training may not be optimal for muscle preservation. Aim for 2–4 sessions/week of structured resistance training involving major muscle groups. ✅ Continue cardio for cardiovascular health, but excessive cardio without adequate resistance training can make muscle retention more difficult. ✅ Ensure adequate sleep (7–9 hours) and stress management, as both influence abdominal fat accumulation. If your waist circumference is elevated despite a normal BMI, you may have normal-weight central obesity, which warrants focused lifestyle modification and, if needed, body composition assessment. Bottom line: Moderate calorie deficit + high protein intake + progressive strength training + regular cardio is the most effective strategy for reducing belly fat while preserving muscle mass.

To achieve this without accidentally losing muscle mass, here are three quick tips you can implement right away: Prioritize Protein: To preserve and build muscle while targeting fat loss, your protein intake needs to be calculated precisely based on your lean body mass. Tweak Your Workout Ratio: Since you already do 5 days of cardio and light strength training, shifting the focus slightly more toward progressive strength training will boost your resting metabolic rate and help tighten the core area. The Right Deficit: A massive calorie deficit will cause muscle loss. You need a very slight, controlled calorie deficit or even a 'maintenance' plan paired with high protein. Because body recomposition requires a delicate balance of macronutrients (carbs, proteins, and fats) tailored specifically to your daily activity. To reduce belly fat while maintaining muscle :- ✅ Follow a mild calorie deficit, not an aggressive one. A deficit of about 250–400 calories per day is usually sufficient. Severe calorie restriction can increase muscle loss. ✅ Increase protein intake, such as eggs, fish, chicken, paneer, tofu, Greek yogurt, milk, and pulses. ✅ Prioritize strength training. Light resistance training is beneficial, but progressively challenging your muscles through resistance exercises 3–5 times per week is one of the most effective ways to preserve muscle during fat loss. ✅ Continue cardio, but avoid excessive amounts. Around 150–300 minutes of moderate-intensity cardio per week is generally adequate. ✅ Get adequate sleep (7–9 hours daily), as poor sleep can negatively affect fat loss and increase abdominal fat accumulation. ✅ Manage stress, since chronically elevated stress hormones may contribute to fat storage around the abdomen. The focus should be : High Protein + Progressive Strength Training + Mild Calorie Deficit + Consistency,
