Kindly adhere to these guidelines. 1. Clean the wound: Use mild soap and warm water to gently wash the wound. This will help remove any dirt or bacteria that may be present. 2. Apply an antiseptic: After cleaning the wound, apply an antiseptic solution or ointment to help prevent infection. Examples include hydrogen peroxide, povidone-iodine, or an over-the-counter antibiotic ointment. 3. Stop the bleeding: If the wound is bleeding, apply gentle pressure using a clean cloth or sterile gauze pad until the bleeding stops. 4. Cover the wound: Once the wound is clean and dry, cover it with a sterile bandage or adhesive strips. This will protect it from additional dirt and bacteria. 5. Monitor for signs of infection: Keep an eye on the wound for any signs of infection, such as increased redness, swelling, pain, pus, or fever. If these symptoms develop, seek medical attention. 6. Update tetanus vaccination: If the skin is broken or punctured, it is important to ensure that the individual's tetanus vaccination is up to date. Tetanus shots are typically recommended every 10 years. 7. Seek medical attention if needed: If the bite or scratch is deep, large, or causing severe pain, it is advisable to seek medical attention. Additionally, medical attention should be sought for bites on the face, hands, or genitals, as well as for bites from stray or wild animals. Regards, Dr. UN Sahoo

An image of your dog bite is important for making a diagnosis of the category of bite. Certain bites require only rabies vaccine and tetanus but some bites where wound is deeper would require a rabies monoclonal antibody as well. Kindly get a consultation for categorising your dog bite and getting appropriate management.

If it is a domesticated dog, check for vaccination status. If it was a minor scratch no blood. Just wash with soap under running water. If the scratch drew blood or is deep or the wound is a bite and deep , get Injection TT and rabies injection immediately.
