Adequate patient history is required for proper consultation. Since the person is hiv negative there is no need to worry about hiv. But we have to rule out other causes for chronic cough such at vitamin deficiencies or respiratory conditions
Next Steps
Consult for detailed workup

A non reactive test means you don’t have the disease, there’s no need to panic. For other symptoms you should consult a doctor.

From the history and the date of exposure, it doesn’t look like HIV. Good to get him examined to rule out other cause of his cough.

There are many causes of chronic cough. I don't know why your friend is thinking about HIV Infection as a cause for cough Deficiency of Vit D3, B12 or Calcium have nothing to do with AIDS. They need specific treatment in their own right.

Based on what you’ve described, your friend's non-reactive HIV 1 & 2 antibody test result after a year of possible exposure is highly reliable. Generally, HIV antibody tests are accurate after a window period of 3 months, meaning that a negative test result after a year without further exposures strongly suggests they do not have HIV. However, their fatigue and chronic cough might be related to low Vitamin D and B12 levels, which can cause a range of symptoms, including: Fatigue Weakness Difficulty concentrating Muscle pain or weakness Breathing issues, in some cases
Next Steps
The chronic white cough could also be due to other factors such as allergies, respiratory conditions, or even stress. It would be a good idea for your friend to consult for a full evaluation, possibly addressing the deficiencies and exploring other causes for the cough and fatigue, but HIV is unlikely given the test result.
Health Tips
Stress can worsen both physical and mental symptoms, so addressing that might help as well.

Dear patient, A non-reactive HIV test result, especially 1 year after potential exposure, is highly reliable. The window period for HIV antibodies to appear is generally 2–12 weeks, with most people showing detectable antibodies within this time frame. A non-reactive result a year later would mean your friend is unlikely to have HIV from that exposure, especially without new exposures. If further reassurance is needed, retesting or discussing other tests like HIV RNA PCR with a healthcare provider could help, but it’s not usually necessary and would incur unnecessary medical costs especially after a negative antibody test at this stage. HIV-related symptoms like persistent cough, fatigue, and weight loss typically occur when the immune system is significantly weakened. A relatively common finding after initial HIV exposure is fever accompanied with mouth ulcers and swollen lymph nodes. This is not the case according to the information that you have provided For the chronic cough with white sputum , I would need more details from your friend like Smoking history, History of TB Exposure at Workplace or in Family etc. Chronic cough could be caused by post-nasal drip and GERD (acidity), none of which are related to HIV. Infections, or environmental factors could also contribute to a lingering cough. Lastly, Vitamin D at a level of 16 ng/mL is considered deficient (normal 20–50 ng/mL), and B12 levels of 125 pg/mL are also quite low (normal: 200–900 pg/mL). Both deficiencies can contribute to fatigue, low energy, muscle weakness, and even cognitive issues like stress or difficulty concentrating. Does your friend consume a Vegetarian Diet ? Vitamin D deficiency can also affect immunity, possibly contributing to respiratory symptoms. I hope this helps! Please encourage your friend to reach out to their healthcare provider if they need more support.
Next Steps
Be assured that the HIV test is reliable and focus on treating the vitamin deficiencies and managing stress. Vitamin D and B12 supplementation under a doctor's guidance should improve fatigue and possibly some other symptoms over time. Stress management techniques like mindfulness, exercise might help reduce health-related anxiety. If the cough persists, consulting a physician to rule out other causes like asthma, reflux, or infections might be a good idea.
Health Tips
Practice safe sex and make use of condoms.

If you are really worried, you should get the test again in other facility! Just to have the ease of mind! while doing that, try to get your cough, also examined.! it is all probably stress, and non-nutritious diet, you just have to add lukewarm water and some kind of fruits in diet. Make sure to have fruits before 5 PM. It is better to have test again for HIV just as a Confirmation.

Based on the query and information provided, it seems like the individual is concerned about symptoms and HIV despite having a negative test result. Here's a response as a specialist: --- It's great that your friend has tested negative for HIV antibodies, as it usually indicates no infection, especially considering there has been no further exposure since the potential risk a year ago. The chronic white cough and symptoms of fatigue could be related to several other factors, such as stress, anxiety, or nutritional deficiencies, particularly the low levels of Vitamin D and B12 that were found. Low Vitamin D and B12 can cause fatigue, muscle weakness, and immune issues, which could explain some of the symptoms being experienced. Chronic stress can also exacerbate physical symptoms and lead to persistent fatigue. It would be important to address these deficiencies with the guidance of a healthcare provider, including considering supplements and dietary changes. If the symptoms persist despite treating these deficiencies, it would be advisable to look into other potential causes such as respiratory conditions or chronic stress. For a detailed consultation and to rule out any other underlying issues, I recommend booking a session with me to ensure a holistic approach to the symptoms.
