Destroyed mental health
I have struggled with mental health for long,i was healing from apl 2022(with proper medication). Then january 2025 arrived-I was insulted, humiliated, threatened, scolded constantly for no fault(i was very hardworking as a student) at school by few teachers.I cried everday back then(jan 2025).I was humiliated during my practical tests in early feb 2025,threatened to be slapped, insulted in front of everyone for hours & even rewrote the test for bio from 12-5(skipped lunch+insulted terribly).I had severe breakdown The humiliation doesnt even affect me anymore, the breakdown that i had back then restarted the loop of disorders i once had before apl 2022,i have been suicidal, anxious depressed ever since. The nervousness i had back then seems to have been stuck in me-making me stressful for no reason.Everytime i try to eat meds from a new psych,my mental health goes downhill & i suffer from side-effects. Can counselling alone fix my mental health?I don't want to take new meds.

"I was insulted, humiliated, threatened and scolded constantly, and after my breakdown, the loop of difficulties started again." What you describe sounds deeply painful, and it makes sense that such experiences could leave you feeling emotionally overwhelmed. The good news is that even when old symptoms return, it does not mean your recovery has been destroyed or that you cannot improve again. A trauma-informed CBT-based treatment plan can help stabilise symptoms, understand triggers and gradually rebuild your sense of safety and functioning. Because you mention being suicidal, please seek immediate support from a mental-health professional or emergency service if those thoughts are currently present or you feel unsafe.

I am so incredibly sorry you were treated that way. You didn't deserve any of that cruelty. To answer your question: Yes, counselling can absolutely fix your mental health, but it's like physical therapy for a broken leg. Meds are just the crutches to stop you from falling while you're hurting; counselling is the actual exercise that rebuilds your strength, so you won't need the crutches forever. Please don't stay stuck in this dark place. Consult me today, and we will safely work through this trauma together so you can finally find peace without the side effects.

Thank you for sharing this. What you went through with repeated humiliation, threats and emotional distress sounds deeply upsetting, and it is understandable that the experience may have affected you even after the situation has ended. Counselling can definitely be an important part of your recovery. It can help you process what happened, work on anxiety and depressive symptoms, rebuild your sense of safety and confidence, and develop healthier coping strategies. However, considering that you mention suicidal thoughts and a recurrence of significant mental-health difficulties, counselling alone should not automatically be assumed to be sufficient. I would strongly recommend a psychiatric assessment along with regular psychological therapy. You can tell the psychiatrist clearly about your previous medication experiences and side effects and discuss your concerns about starting medication again. You should not stop or restart psychiatric medication on your own. Dr Namita Ranjan Counselling Psychologist

Counselling can help significantly, but whether it alone would be sufficient cannot be decided without understanding your condition properly. Since you have been feeling suicidal, I would recommend working with a psychologist alongside a psychiatrist, and discussing your side effects openly rather than stopping or changing medication on your own. If you feel you may harm yourself or cannot stay safe, please contact someone you trust immediately, visit the nearest emergency department, or call Tele MANAS at 14416.

You can try counselling alone, but because the case is severe, you have to take weekly twice counselling sessions. You will be able to cope up with the right counsellor, no worries, take care.

Counselling can help especially trauma-focused therapy - but please reach out to a crisis line or professional now about the suicidal feelings, don’t wait.
