Dear Doctor,
I am a 28-year-old engineering graduate seeking mental health support. For the past 2–3 months my condition has worsened, although I have been struggling with fear and anxiety for almost 3 years.
I am experiencing the following symptoms:
Constant anxiety and fear
Very low motivation and energy
Loss of interest in daily activities
Staying at home most of the time
Avoiding friends and social interaction
Excessive sleeping during the day
Slow thinking and difficulty concentrating
Fear of interviews and responsibilities
Avoidance of calls and messages
Feelings of hopelessness, guilt, and regret
Loss of confidence
Difficulty preparing for jobs even though I want to work
I recently lost my job, but I was too afraid to tell my family and friends. This has increased my guilt and stress. I sometimes go out to do part-time delivery work and pretend that I still have a job.

Hello, thank you for reaching out and explaining your concerns in detail. The symptoms you describe — persistent anxiety, low motivation and energy, loss of interest, poor concentration, social withdrawal, excessive sleep, guilt, and fear related to responsibilities — are suggestive of a depressive disorder with significant anxiety. These conditions are common, especially after prolonged stress and job-related difficulties, and they are treatable.
Next Steps
I would strongly recommend consulting a psychiatrist for a proper clinical evaluation. Depending on the assessment, treatment may include psychotherapy (such as CBT) and, if required, medication to help stabilize mood and reduce anxiety.if at any point you experience thoughts of self-harm or feel overwhelmed, please seek urgent medical help. With appropriate treatment and support, recovery is very much possible.
Health Tips
In the meantime, try to maintain a basic daily routine, regular sleep–wake timings, light physical activity, and avoid isolation as much as possible. Please understand that your difficulty in functioning is part of the illness and not a personal failure.

The symptoms you have suggested are indicative of a depressive disorder. It would be wise for you to cancel the Psychiatrist and get evaluated in detail, either online or in person. Based on the evaluation antidepressant therapy and if needed cognitive behavioural therapy will lead to significant improvement in many. Good luck.
Your symptoms suggest moderate–severe depression with anxiety (possibly social/performance anxiety). This is a medical condition, not a personal failure, and it’s very treatable.
I strongly advise:
• Consult a psychiatrist for proper assessment and treatment (medication may help).
• Start therapy (CBT) to work on avoidance, fear, and confidence.
• Do not isolate yourself—gradual routine and activity scheduling is important.
• If you have any thoughts of self-harm, seek urgent help immediately.
Early treatment can help you regain motivation, clarity, and confidence.
