Hello,
I am Dr. Romain Rajan, General Physician (Ex Govt Medical Officer at RML Hospital, New Delhi), and your case has been allotted to me.
Thank you for sharing this. A cough for 3 months is NOT a simple cough anymore, and giving random syrups will not solve it. It needs proper diagnosis first, especially since you also have a 5-month-old baby at home.
Important point
A cough lasting this long is called chronic cough and usually happens due to an underlying cause, not just infection
Possible causes (very important)
Most common reasons are:
⢠Allergy or post nasal drip
⢠Asthma or bronchitis
⢠Acidity (GERD)
⢠Old infection not fully treated
⢠TB (very important to rule out in India)
ð Treatment depends on cause, not just syrup
What you should do now (MOST IMPORTANT)
Do these tests
⢠Chest X-ray
⢠Sputum test (especially for TB)
⢠CBC and CRP
⢠If needed, pulmonologist consultation
About syrup or tablet
â There is NO single best syrup for 3 months cough
â Taking random syrups can delay diagnosis
Depending on cause, doctor may give:
⢠Anti allergy medicines
⢠Inhalers (if asthma)
⢠Anti acid medicines
⢠Antibiotics (only if needed)
Very important (because of baby)
Since you have a 5-month-old baby:
⢠Avoid close contact while coughing
⢠Use mask
⢠Get evaluated early
ð To rule out infections like TB
When to consult urgently
⢠Weight loss
⢠Night cough or fever
⢠Blood in sputum
⢠Breathlessness
Bottom line
ð 3 month cough = needs proper diagnosis, not just syrup
ð Consult Pulmonologist or Physician immediately
ð Do chest X-ray and basic tests first

Cough for 3 months is chronic cough. It will be helpful if you'll answer a few more questions to help arrive at a clinical diagnosis.
Is it productive or dry cough?
Is it worse in the mornings? Is it worse on lying done? We will have to check for allergies, tuberculosis, reflux and rule out any heart issues that can cause your symptoms. So a simple cough syrup will not be a quick fix. Kindly reply personally with these details. We can take it from there.
Chronic cough for 3 months needs proper evaluation, not just cough syrup. Common causes include allergy, asthma, reflux, or infection.
Since she also has a 5-month baby, avoid self-medication. She should consult a physician/pulmonologist for tests like chest X-ray or allergy check.
Meanwhile avoid cold items, dust exposure, and take warm fluids. Please consult a doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment.
Persistent cough , you need to do first sputum culture, c-xray .start treatment after the evaluation properly. Otherwise without knowing causes ,cough syp. And medicine wouldn't work.so go for these test and share results here or consult directly.
