Consistent pain at the back of head-neck
Hello doctors, I have been having some strange pains towards the base of the right skull, where the head meets the neck (or diagonally behind the right ear at the hollow point along the neck, pictures attached). Also there is a slight throbbing below my wisdom tooth at the right lower jaw. I have had OTC pain relief meds but they have given me temporary relief, for example no pain all morning but a lot of pain by the evening. I have used ice packs and moov cream but that is also temporary relief. There is no blurry vision or fever etc. So can you suggest what I can do or what medicine I can take? I am attaching pictures here to show the location and directions of the pain which kind of shoots towards the head at times. Please help 🙏

Hello. Pain in the base of the skull with radiation to head can often be due the muscle strain, posture issues, or sometimes referred pain from teeth and jaw. Since you are getting only temporary relief with OTC medicines and local applications, it obvious that the root cause is not addressed. It is not advisable to self-medicate without proper consultation. After detailed case history, we can help you in addressing the root cause and provide you a constitutional homoeopathic treatment plan which doesn't just improve your pain but improves your overall health and thereby preventing the recurrence. To know more and for any other concerns you can call us or reach us online.

As you described your pain location and type it may be due to TMJ inflammation or Muscle tension. A proper case taking is required with some more information because homeopathy has best medicines for this. Consult a homeopath to get complete cure.

Hello, thank you for sharing the photo and detailed description . I can understand how disturbing and worrying this kind of pain can be. Let me explain in detail so you feel reassured and know the right next steps. From your description pain at the base of the skull/behind the right ear that sometimes shoots upward, along with throbbing below the right lower wisdom tooth the most likely cause is a dental problem (wisdom tooth infection or dental abscess). Dental issues often give referred pain toward the ear, jaw, and neck. The small lump you pointed out could be a tender lymph node reacting to the infection. Other possible causes (less likely in your case but important to mention) include: Occipital neuralgia or nerve irritation (causing shooting pain at the back of the head). Cervical muscle spasm/strain. Ear or mastoid-related inflammation (usually with fever, ear discharge, or swelling). Red flags – seek urgent care if: swelling of the face/neck rapidly increases, you develop fever, difficulty in opening your mouth, trouble swallowing, speaking, or breathing. In such cases, please go to the nearest emergency/dental/ENT center immediately. Book a dental check-up with X-ray (OPG/periapical) as soon as possible — this will confirm if your wisdom tooth is the culprit. For pain relief (if you have no allergy/contraindication): Do warm salt-water gargles 3–4 times a day to reduce gum inflammation. Apply a cold compress outside the cheek for throbbing pain. Avoid chewing hard foods on the painful side. Keep yourself hydrated and take soft foods. In homeopathy, remedies like Belladonna, Hepar sulph, Merc sol, or Silicea are sometimes indicated for dental pain with swelling or throbbing — but the exact prescription depends on your full case details, so an individualized consultation is best before starting. My advice: Please don’t delay, as dental infections can worsen if left untreated. With proper care, the pain will settle and the root cause can be treated safely. If you’d like, you can book an appointment with me for detailed case-taking and guidance. I will help you with both homeopathic management for pain and healing, and also guide you if dental/ENT intervention is required. I understand your concern. Let’s break it down step by step. Based on the complaint: Pain at the base of right skull / back of head & neck – often suggests cervico-occipital neuralgia, cervical spondylosis/strain, or tension-type headache. Slight throbbing below wisdom tooth, right lower jaw – may indicate dental cause (impacted/infected wisdom tooth) that can radiate to the head and neck. No blurry vision, no fever, no neurological deficits – this lowers the suspicion of serious issues. I suggest you consult a homeopathic physician for a proper personalised remedy.
Next Steps
If pain persists >1–2 weeks, worsens, or neurological symptoms appear → consult a neurologist / dentist urgently.
Health Tips
Correct posture, avoid prolonged bending/phone use. Warm compress (better than ice for chronic muscular pain). Gentle neck stretches and shoulder rolls. Dental checkup for wisdom tooth evaluation.

It seems to be a neuromuscular concern regarding cervical joints. It needs to be treated in a holistic approach for complete recovery. Just taking OTC medicines may not help you for a long time. It can be well treated with homeopathic medicine effectively and without any side effects but you need an expert Homeopathic physician asap.
