Consistent pain at the back of head-neck
Hello doctors,
I have been having some strange pains towards the base of the right skull, where the head meets the neck (or diagonally behind the right ear at the hollow point along the neck, pictures attached). Also there is a slight throbbing below my wisdom tooth at the right lower jaw. I have had OTC pain relief meds but they have given me temporary relief, for example no pain all morning but a lot of pain by the evening. I have used ice packs and moov cream but that is also temporary relief. There is no blurry vision or fever etc. So can you suggest what I can do or what medicine I can take? I am attaching pictures here to show the location and directions of the pain which kind of shoots towards the head at times. Please help 🙏

From your description pain at the base of the skull/behind the right ear that sometimes shoots upward, along with throbbing below the right lower wisdom tooth the most likely cause is a dental problem (wisdom tooth infection or dental abscess). Dental issues often give referred pain toward the ear, jaw, and neck. The small lump you pointed out could be a tender lymph node reacting to the infection.
Other possible causes (less likely in your case but important to mention) include:
Occipital neuralgia or nerve irritation (causing shooting pain at the back of the head).
Cervical muscle spasm/strain.
Ear or mastoid-related inflammation (usually with fever, ear discharge, or swelling).
Red flags â seek urgent care if: swelling of the face/neck rapidly increases, you develop fever, difficulty in opening your mouth, trouble swallowing, speaking, or breathing. In such cases, please go to the nearest emergency/dental/ENT center immediately.

It seems to be a neuromuscular concern regarding cervical joints. It needs to be treated in a holistic approach for complete recovery.
