Chronic Acl and maniscus tear of grade 2
Hi Dr. hope you are well. I have chronic partial Acl tear as well as Meniscus tear of grade 2. I have decided not to go for surgery. What are my chances to recover my knee fully? I am able to walk normal now. Initially I had a problem going up and down on stairs. Now it's getting better on stairs as well. My only problem is running and jumping. Kindly advise. Thank you

ACL and meniscal tears are mechanical problems of the knee joint where surgery is warranted. That being said, if are willing to let go of any sporting activity and make considerable lifestyle changes and do rigorous physiotherapy then you can avoid the surgery lest it should lead to early degenerative changes in the knee joint.

Usually a c l ligament once injured does not heal completely and require surgery to give stability to the joint If you have opted for a non operative treatment then physiotherapy will help in strengthening of the knee muscles but will not heal the Acl ligament. While you will be able to walk normally, strenuous activity will not be possible due to lack of stability of the joint. If you continue to do strenuous  activities you will have cartilage damage which will lead to early degeneration of your joint.
