Grade 3 ACL tear
I had an accident 3 months back. I got a grade 3 ACL tear in my right knee. Doctors advised me to go for arthroscopic surgery for this as soon as possible. Prior to that I should do some pre-surgery physiotherapy. Since the past two months I have been regularly doing the physiotherapy and got some improvements in my movements. I am able to walk better with physiotherapy. Although after these major improvements, there is still pain in my right knee which sometimes goes throughout the leg. Whenever I do knee bending exercise I feel some cracking sound with pain in the knee. I still cannot walk for long since the pain starts immediately. What will be the pros and cons for the surgery? Should I still opt for surgery? What will happen if I don't choose surgery? What will happen if I go for surgery? Please give me suggestions for this.

Surgery is must. Considering your age, there is no other alternative. Before surgery u must achieve full range of motion at knee joint. And ur Quadriceps should not be weak. There should be no inflammation in ur knee joint prior to surgery, for best possible results.
Next Steps
Physical examination with Orthopedic Surgeon nd Plan for Surgery.

You should rather must opt for surgery . Pros - Your knee will become normal again , Cons - I don’t see anything apart from normal theoretical surgical risks explained. If you don’t choose surgery ? Well, you will choose knee replacement instead then down the line after 10-15 years ! If you go for surgery? With proper post op rehabilitation, you will be back to normal infact you can play games like football too . Opt surgery in good hands !! No matter even if you travel to far away places from yours’ to choose good surgeons .
Next Steps
Choose arthroscopic ACL reconstruction with or without meniscus repair
Health Tips
Opt to get surgery done in good hands . Thank you . Dr Guruprasad H B . ( MBBS , MS ortho - RML , Delhi , FIASM , FJRS , FIFA diploma in football medicine , FIRJRS ) Consultant Arthroscopy , Joint replacement and advanced trauma surgeon.

Considering your age you should opt for Acl reconstruction Pros - better knee function and restoration of normal anatomy and biomechanics of knee, thus avoiding early wear and tear of knee joint, reducing the risk of further fall due to unstable knee Cons - standard risk associated with any surgery If no surgery - will lead to unstable knee, and early wear and tear of knee cartilage After surgery - back to normal life after 4 months
