Cervical pillow alone is not a solution for cervical pain.
It takes time to adjust with the pillow and moreover u might not feel very comfortable in side lying position on it.
U should start taking care of ur posture that will help u reduce ur pain.
And start doing strengthening exercises for the same under the guidance of physiotherapist.
Perfect posture is very difficult to maintain all the time, it is 100% safe . It gives more comfort when lying straight, not very comfortable in sidelying
CERVICAL PILLOW
The first thing is If you sleep on your back, your pillow should completely fill the space between your neck and the mattress. If you sleep on your side, try using a thicker pillow to keep your head in line with the rest of your body in this position. Whatever you do, don't place your pillow under your shoulders.
It's generally recommended to use a pillow if you sleep on your back or side. However, what's most important is that you feel comfortable and pain-free in bed. if you have neck or bavk pain, or if you have spine condition like scoliosis, sleeping without a pillow may be unsafe.
If you are a back sleeper, you should push your pillow down next to your shoulders but not lay your shoulders on the pillow. Your head should be level when it's on the pillow. Your ears should be in a parallel line with your shoulders. The pillow should not be so thick that your chin is tucked into your chest.
While choosing the pillow check out for the brand and its size depending on your neck and shoulder, it may be medium or large size pillows available.
Pillows are not just for your head and neck. Depending on your sleeping position, additional pillows can help keep your spine in the proper position. The pillow for your head should support the natural curve of your neck and be comfortable. A pillow that's too high can put your neck into a position that causes muscle strain on your back, neck, and shoulders. Choose a pillow that will keep the neck aligned with the chest and lower back. Your pillow should be adjustable to allow you to sleep in different positions. Replace your pillows every year or so.
Check out for pillow which best suits you and avoid neck bending forward or back ward.
maintain proper posture to regulate cervical pain and if possible take ultrasound therapy for a week.
You can use cervical pillow..but word of caution will be it doesn't suite everyone.. currently if your experiencing neck pain my suggestion would be use thicker pillow..the reason is in sleeping position ur neck should not bend backward or what we often call as neck extension in medical term..neck bent slightly forward (neck flexion) will relieve ur pain and will give you a good sleep..
Next Steps
I often advise my patient to use two pillow..so one is kept like regular one other pillow is kept in diagonal way creating a kind of slope for neck..
Health Tips
get a appointment of physio or ortho who can diagnose in a better way..
Hello sir, yes the cervical pillow is absolutely safe, but it is not a permanent solution for your neck pain. So it's a request to consult a doctor for the root cause of it.
Thank you
