Hi frankly patients can't know unless they visit a dental clinic for a check up. So visit a dentist . You will possibly also need x-rays. As some dental cavity are  not visible on the outside. Avoid self diagnosis. Hope this helped

in the earliest form cavities or more accurately tooth decay is white in color. It then changes to brown and then black. Self assessment is not possible in early stages and for areas where visualization is not possible (for example between teeth and behind the posterior teeth).Visit your nearest dentist to get a full assessment
Next Steps
visit the nearest Dentist for a check up

Majority of the time, you will notice some discoloration (black/brown) on the tooth, which will be associated with food getting stuck over that area. Sensitivity / mild pain if the cavity is superficial and if the cavity is deep you might get moderate to severe pain.
Next Steps
So if you notice any of the above mentioned symptoms you better visit a dentist
Health Tips
If the filling is superficial dentist will suggest you a filling, if it is deep you have to go for root canal treatment

A black/brown spot may be caries. A very little brown spot is less likely to cause any pain though. It’s better to get a detailed examination done by a dentist as many a times the cavities may remain hidden and not visible to eyes.
