Please mention other symptoms and history as well but for now 72-4 is a glycoprotein tumor marker, Most often studied in gastric cancer (and also ovarian mucinous tumors, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer). Not recommended for screening (per ESMO and NCCN guidelines) because of low specificity and sensitivity. It is mainly used for monitoring treatment response or detecting recurrence. Mild elevation (like 16 U/mL) is nonspecific and can be seen in: Benign conditions: gastritis, liver disease, ovarian cysts, inflammation, smoking. Early or residual malignancy (rarely as the only finding).
Next Steps
kindly be reassured but I do advise you to kindly connect if there are any symptoms or other abnormal lab reports

Firstly, you need to visit a gastroenterologist and get yourself physically examined. Also please give further information regarding why you had taken this particular test. Any symptoms that led you to take this test. A CA 72-4 positive test indicates a cancer in the stomach. However, to determine the stage, and treatment modality further investigations need to be done. Firstly a CECT abdomen with IV contrast, followed by endoscopy and biopsy of the stomach or the lesion if visible. With those results consult an oncologist who will prescribe a PET CT and depending upon which stage it is and how much it has spread the doctors will let you know if surgery needs to be done or only chemotherapy can be given. Hope you find this information useful and hope your relative gets well soon.
