Can't fully open jaw after scuba diving
I went for scuba diving 2 weeks ago and still can't open my jaw wide open, it pains me to chew certain snacks and chewing gum. Is this supposed to go with time and home remedies or does it need to be treated? Thank you for the help

Dear, Persistent jaw pain and limited mobility after scuba diving suggests: _Possible causes:_ 1. Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) strain or injury. 2. Barodontalgia (jaw pain due to pressure changes). 3. Diver's jaw or scuba jaw. Symptoms: 1. Jaw pain or tenderness. 2. Difficulty opening mouth wide. 3. Pain while chewing. Self-care and home remedies: 1. Apply warm compresses. 2. Gentle jaw stretches. 3. Soft food diet. 4. Avoid chewing gum. If symptoms persist: 1. Consult a dentist or TMJ specialist. 2. Consider over-the-counter pain relievers. When to seek immediate attention: 1. Severe pain. 2. Difficulty swallowing. 3. Lockjaw. Additional guidance: - Document symptoms and progression. - Avoid heavy jaw activities. Recommended dental evaluation: 1. X-rays or MRI for TMJ assessment. 2. Bite analysis. 3. Customized treatment plan. Consult a dentist or TMJ specialist for personalized advice. Best regards, Dr. Pratikshit Anand

Hello, To correctly address the underlying problem please consult a dentist in clinic appointment. I would advise OPG and follow soft diet till then. Do not force open or ingest hard food . Take care.
