Hey
I am 24 year old male. I have never noticed my gums until now so I m not sure if they have been brown since birth or changed recently.
I saw some my gums are brown at few places in upper lip side as well as lower lip side. No sign of bleeding or pain. I have attached picture for reference.
Also, I have been light smoker since last 1.5 years.

I understand your concern about the color of your gums. From the image you've provided, it appears that you have areas of darker pigmentation on your gums. This can sometimes be normal and result from melanin, which is a natural pigment in the body.
However, since you mentioned that you are a light smoker, it's important to note that smoking can also contribute to gum discoloration. Smoking can cause reduced blood flow to the gums and oral tissues, leading to changes in color.
Here are a few things to consider:
Oral Hygiene: Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential. Make sure you are brushing your teeth and gums properly at least twice a day and flossing daily. This can help prevent gum disease and keep your gums healthy.
Quit Smoking: If you are concerned about the impact of smoking on your oral health, consider quitting smoking. Smoking has numerous negative effects on oral health, including increased risk of gum disease, staining, and other issues.
Regular Dental Checkups: Even if you're not experiencing pain or bleeding, it's important to visit a dentist regularly for checkups. A dentist can assess your oral health, including the condition of your gums, and provide guidance on maintaining a healthy smile.
Professional Cleaning: If you're noticing gum discoloration, a professional dental cleaning may help remove surface stains and improve the appearance of your gums.
Monitor Changes: Keep an eye on the color of your gums. If you notice any changes in color, size, shape, or texture, or if you experience any discomfort or bleeding, it's advisable to seek advice from a dentist.
It's worth mentioning that the appearance of gums can vary from person to person and is influenced by factors such as genetics, oral hygiene, lifestyle habits, and more. If you have concerns about the appearance of your gums or any other oral health issues, it's always a good idea to consult a dentist for personalized advice and recommendations.
This brown/black discolouration/ hyper pigmentation is a normal feature due to melanin pigment in gums. Don’t worry about it.
However, I do see that your gums are inflamed and hygiene is compromised. Plz get a professional cleaning/ scaling done.
Also, there is trauma to one of your gums in the pictures attached. Possibly you are using hard tooth brush out applying too much pressure while brushing.
Next Steps
Use soft tooth brush. Visit a dentist for professional scaling
