Braces query
Hello Dr's, I have been advised to go for braces for my 12 year old daughter, attaching x rays, The Dr said she will come up with plan as we are going for aligners since the Dr suggested it, as the child has white spots on teeth and Dr said it will cause cavities incase of braces as it is difficult to brush... She said no need of extraction now but maybe in future, and has told she will leave a wire on teeth after the alignment treatment for few years to keep retainers.. My doubt is will this change the face shape of my child? I am concerned... please enlighten how much is too much.. thank u

You should go by the advice of the dentist. Your child definitely is in need of an ortho treatment. Most probably this case would require extractions in future. If your child already has white spots on her teeth Please take an anticaries/ flouride treatment before starting any sort of orthodontic treatment. It would be highly beneficial. AS such you can go in for regular braces also, there's no harm in that but you will have to maintain proper oral hygiene for your child. In fact, even today regular braces are the most commonly used modality, most preferred fro severe malocclusion cases, and drastically reduce the burden on your pocket. The wire to be left on for a few years is for retention purpose to prevent relapse of malocclusion, which is very common after ortho-treatment. The looks of your child will be changed dramatically after a good orthodontics.

We understand that making decisions about your child's dental treatment can be overwhelming. We're here to address your concerns and provide clarity regarding braces and their potential impact on your child's face shape. Firstly, thank you for sharing the x-rays. Based on the x-rays, the bimaxillary protrusion is evident, and the recommended treatment is braces or aligners. These options can effectively align your child's teeth and improve their smile. Regarding the white spots on your child's teeth, the dentist's suggestion of aligners instead of braces is a thoughtful approach. Aligners offer better access for brushing and reduce the risk of cavities. It's important to prioritize oral hygiene during orthodontic treatment to maintain healthy teeth. As for future extraction, the dentist will evaluate your child's progress throughout the treatment. Extraction decisions are typically made to create adequate space for proper alignment. Your dentist will guide you on the need for extractions if required. Now, let's address your concern about potential changes to your child's face shape. Rest assured, orthodontic treatment aims to improve the alignment and function of the teeth, not alter facial features. The primary focus is on achieving a balanced and harmonious smile. During the treatment, your child's face may undergo subtle changes due to the correction of dental alignment. However, these changes are generally within the natural range and enhance facial aesthetics. It's essential to trust the expertise of your dentist and maintain open communication throughout the treatment journey. They will create a personalized plan tailored to your child's specific needs, ensuring optimal results.

You should most definitely consider getting alignment correct. Even though traditional braces has fairly good treatment success, but aligners in today’s world make far more sense; with respect to many things.

According to the Xray your child is definitely in need of orthodontic treatment and considering the white spots on teeth your dentist has suggested you the best way that is aligners as the hygiene will be maintained more with the aligners, and yes there will be some minor facial changes when the teeth will be aligned.
