Berberine for weight loss
Hello Doctors, Can I take Berberine tablets for weight loss without doctor consultation? I am currently on thyroid medication. I need to lose a big chunk of weight, I am also following diet and walking. But it is difficult to lose weight, please suggest if I can go for Wellbeing nutrition berberine Hcl+, or if there are more pure OTC options available

For a 31-year-old female weighing 123 kg with hypothyroidism on Thyronorm 75 mcg, taking any supplement like berberine without medical supervision is not advised. Berberine can help improve insulin resistance and may assist mild weight loss, but it can interact with thyroid and liver metabolism. It may also lower blood sugar and affect the absorption or effect of other medicines. Wellbeing Nutrition Berberine HCl+ and other OTC products vary in purity and dosage, so quality and safety are uncertain. Continue your diet and walking routine because weight loss with hypothyroidism is slower but steady. Focus on calorie tracking, high-protein meals, and 40 to 45 minutes of brisk walking daily. Avoid multiple supplements unless reviewed properly. Before starting berberine, get your thyroid, insulin, and liver function evaluated to ensure safe use under expert guidance. For a safe and monitored weight loss plan, book a consult on Practo.

Before taking any supplements you need to be more cautious as you are consuming thyroid medications. Here are some important points to keep in mind: - Berberine is a supplement which is mostly used by people having high blood sugar levels and insulin resistance and it may interfere with your thyroid medications and also lower your blood sugar levels if they are in the normal range. - For thyroid you need to avoid having raw vegetables as they contain goitrogens and always cook them thoroughly before consuming. - Consume more of complex carbohydrates, proteins and healthy fats in your diet which will help manage your weight. - Avoid consuming any refined or processed foods which will interfere with your weight management.

Hi Three mantras for good health, weight loss, weight maintenance and well being are having a balanced diet( the balance in the diet will vary according to the sex of the person, age, activity levels, health issues, food preferences etc), exercise according to individual capacity as well as good rest. Tablets in any form for weight reduction not advised, more so you are already having thyroid issues there can be drastic effects when you use medication for weight reduction.
