20 days old is difficult to schedule sleep
As baby required feeding every 2-3 hourly once ,the rest they are mostly sleeping
As the baby grows around 3-4 months , they start demand feeding where you get 4 -5 hours gap
Next Steps
After 6 months when you start giving food for baby ,advice to start giving food at our regular break, lunch, dinner timings and give one morning nap or around 12-2 pm and get the baby to sleep early by 8 pm in the night .. hope this helps
Health Tips
The best option is get sleep when baby sleeps for now
At this age there is no fixed sleep schedule yet. Newborns don’t have a mature body clock.
Typical sleep:
16–20 hours in 24 hours
Sleep in short bursts of 2–4 hours
Wake primarily for feeding, not routine
Nights and days may still be mixed up (normal until 6–8 weeks)
Your goal now is not strict scheduling — it is gentle regulation and helping baby learn day vs. night.
In newborn period a baby needs 17-18 hrs of sleep. The baby should sleep well for atleast 2hrs if has been fed well.It is recommended to breastfeed the baby every 2 to 3 hrs for adequate growth and development.
Other factors like noise or excess light and extremes of temperature(overheating or feeling cold) can disrupt sleep.
Next Steps
ensure adequate breastfeeding and avoid factors which distrub sleep.
