They take your proper history assess you by conducting tests (tests are conducted by RCI licences clinical psychologist) and help you manage psychological and emotional issues with therapies. There are many types of therapy but their goal is help patient for long term perspective, so they are more equipped for future. First of all Thank you for sharing your concern. The difference between psychologist and psychiatrist are psychologist work deep with emotion to help person better by doing expert trained therapies. And Psychiatrist are MD in medicine who gives medicines along with counselling. In mental health profession Psychiatrist and psychologist both works hand on hand. For example:- one who is suffering from depression. Psychiatrist give medicine and counselling and  psychologist give different type of therapies to help him/her better to live their better life further... I suggest you to consult with both Psychiatrist and Psychologist.

Hi! Anxiety and Depression, if unmanageable and severe might need psychiatric treatment before any therapy. A psychiatrist will give you medicines to make your neurochemical levels stable and fully functioning. A psychologist however will guide you through situations that might be causing or increasing anxiety and equip you with better coping skills, so that both levels of depression and anxiety come down and you're able to manage yourself better . Both treatment go hand in hand when level of either is a bit serious.
Next Steps
talk to a clinical psychologist 1st to understand severity and duration of both anxiety and depression. To go ahead with a psychiatric treatment or not will be decided by the diagnosis you get from them.
