A
vitamin D level of 27 ng/mL is considered low, as the optimal range for vitamin D is typically considered to be between 30-50 ng/mL. Low vitamin D levels can cause muscle pain, weakness, and fatigue.
To increase your vitamin D levels, there are several steps you can take:
Spend more time in the sun: Your body produces vitamin D when your skin is exposed to sunlight. Try to spend 15-20 minutes outside in the sun each day, taking care to protect your skin with sunscreen and/or protective clothing as needed.
Eat more vitamin D-rich foods: Fatty fish, egg yolks, and fortified foods (such as milk, cereal, and orange juice) are good sources of vitamin D.
Consider taking a vitamin D supplement: If you're unable to get enough vitamin D through sun exposure and diet alone, a supplement may be recommended. Speak with me about the appropriate dosage and type of supplement to take.
