Male, 38 years was admitted to an alcohol de-addiction center after being an obsessive drinker for many years. We fear severe consequences of sudden pulling away from alcohol and would like to perform all necessary physical test(blood tests etc.) so as to be thorough in our checks. Please suggest tests we can implement so that no stone is left unturned. We would also like to know the risks associated with alcohol de-addiction and how we can safeguard our friend from the same.

According to me definitely admitting the patient to the rehabilitation center is essential in few cases. Otherwise opd base treatment can be taken. Definitely detoxification period is a difficult stage. Along with finding of co morbidity of psychiatric illness . In every stage psychotherapy sessions required ones the patient is stable. Because it is more of a mental illness then physical illness. According to stress, personality of the patient different type of psychotherapy sessions are required. Accordingly patients family counseling is also required for further improvement.
Next Steps
always consult a psychiatrist and clinical psychologist.
Any de-addiction rehabilitation program is successful on 3 points. First detoxification. 2ndly evaluation of underlying psychiatric co morbidity and lastly peer support to maintain abstinence. However, second part is not given much importance. In third part patient and family's involvement is very much important.
Appreciate you for taking such an initiative..
There is no risk associated with most of the rehab centres..
They will take care of all the tests and procedures once you approach them directly.
Wish him a speedy recovery..
