First of all make list of pros and cons for continue addiction and not continuing addiction. Second addiction involves learn how to deal with urges . How to not to have ,what you really enjoy. Your husband have to learn how not to do ( drink ) what he really want to do.
Alcohol addiction or alcoholism gets cured just with counselling very rarely. What I can suggest you is to go in for de-addiction therapy through the psychiatric department of a good hospital. De-addiction therapy will involve a few days' hospitalisation and usually the patient comes out of the hospital with an aversion for alcohol. But the time after the hospitalisation needs to be handled well by people close to the patient because he can slip back into addiction if proper post-therapy care in terms of family support, counselling, group de-addiction sessions like from Alcoholic Anonymous etc. are not made available to him. The care and close watch will have to be there for at least a year.
The problem with alcoholism treatment is that in most cases, the patient will refuse to visit a doctor and undergo the treatment. The next impediment in recovery from addiction will be the lack of understanding from people close to him. If you manage to overcome all these, de-addiction therapy can be a life-changing event. Hope you succeed in handling all these well.
