ACL tear - do I need surgery
I had met with an accident in Feb 2016,I had severe pain in my right knee and there was severe swelling.I went to a hospital got the X rays and there was no fractures, I just used knee cap and brace for couple of weeks.I always had a discomfort in my right knee and the pop up sound was very common wen I do quick movements or lift weights, last Saturday had a same problem got swelling and went to doctor and as per suggestion took MRI, looks like I have a ACL tear, should I go for surgery .male 31

Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain.

If there is pain and instability then you should go for surgery.

Hi, you need further evaluation to see any laxity in your knee and any other problem in the knee. If you are not symptomatic- physio will do. Consult sports medicine orthopaedic surgeon.

If it is a complete tear of ACL definitely u need to go for a surgery if it js mild or moderate continue a Physio for sometime
