Dear friend. I understand your concern for your mother. 45 years age is very young to get knee replacement done. Though there are certain conditions when we have to perform knee replacement even in 30 years age. I would like to know more about patient. Since how long is the problem in knee. What activities are possible for her now and what causes increase in pain. From my experience, at 45 years of age, Joint Preservation surgery is also possible which prolongs necessity of replacing knee. Physiotherapy helps in many cases and is usually first line of therapy for my patients. Before advising any treatment, I would definitely like to see x Rays of patient. Clinical examination is best tool in surgeons hand. If you can consult personally, that is ideal. You must visit some knee Specialist. Hi I know it sounds bad and we get upset when there are issues of joint pains and joint replacement . The first line of action is PHYSIOTHERAPY in knee pain.PHYSIOTHERAPIST can assess the joint properly and try to correct the Biomechanics of the joint relieving compartment pressure in the knee. You will be given physiotherapy sessions and strenghing knee exercises. The pain will reduce . If your joint is painful to the extent that you are immobile and finding even day to day activities difficult it is better to think of replacement as a treatment.

Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams Stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports Taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area Contrast Fomentation (Hot and Cold).

Hello there,, There are many claims by various health people regarding the benefit of joints through their way....it is best for you to upload xray/mri report of your mother along with blood reports,,,so that the extent of joint condition can be assessed.
Next Steps
A decision could then made weather your mother can then be treated conservatively through medicines, supplimentation and Physiotherapy or weather a knee replacement is necessary.
