I do not recommend the doctor

My father had blockage in bile duct and Dr Kumaran suggested liver resection to treat this. He mentioned it as a routine procedure and gave us a budget of 3 lac approximately. My father never recovered after the surgery and after 14 days in ICU, he passed away. We paid more than 10 Lacs and lost my father. We were never given a hint that the procedure could be life threatening as in that case we would have gone for second opinion. During the 14 days in ICU, doctor was just giving us false hopes that things are improving and then last day suddenly mentioned things are not good. There was a feeling of being cheated and kept in dark about lot of things. Highly disappointed with this doctor.

It would be inappropriate to respond to details of the case as patient confidentiality must be maintained however, some generic points may be made. It is understandable that the family of a deceased patient are distressed and disappointed, however, bear in mind that the patient had a cancer which would have been fatal if not operated upon and this kind of complex hepatobiliary surgery is performed in very few centers. Our outcomes with such surgery have been good and I saw no reason to alarm the family unduly about the likely outcome. The sudden deterioration after surgery was unexpected but any major surgery does carry some risk. The estimated cost of the hospital stay is based on a normal recovery. Certainly a patient who remains in the ICU on life support for two weeks will incur higher costs. Unfortunately the nature of this forum is such that patients with a grievance will be motivated to post while those with uneventful recoveries would not.

I don't know about rest of the outcomes the particular doctor has made successfull. But my grandfather - very fit by his body underwent liver resection by dr.kumaran and passed away after spending 15 days in ICU. Though it was a cancer at its initial stage* ** *** *** ********* ********* *** *** ************ ** **** **** ***** The doctor said even they were unaware of this situation. Just imagine a doctor saying that when you surrender one of your close member to them* **** **** ******* *** **** ********** ******* *** ******** Highly disappointed. And thanks to practo for creating a platform to give feedback orelse such cases will not come into picture and doctors will only claim their success stories.
