My 86-year-old mother was admitted to the emergency room with excruciating abdominal pain and was diagnosed with a 20 mm gallstone. What initially seemed like a straightforward surgery became quite complicated when scans revealed sludge in the bile duct and an aneurysm, for which angioplasty had to be performed before the surgery.
