It is my firm belief that the origin for all pains are at the level of the muscles which then go and have an influence on the skeletal system and thus the term Musculoskeletal Disorders is appropriate. The muscles are affected due to overuse, abuse or under use during our daily activities which creates compensatory muscular imbalances and progressive deterioration in function. Thus MSD's have to be considered as a "lifestyle disease"
Lifestyle in this context means, how are our body part (s) used through the day while we are sitting (how, how much, where). standing, working (office, domestic), sleeping (mattress), and other activities. Every body part has its own "safe" zone of working and we need to ascertain the hazards (posture, repetition, force, contact stress) which create mechanical overload on the exposed body part. Once the risk factors are identified, measures are undertaken to reduce the mechanical overload on that body part by implementing "tailor-made" (as per the height/weight of the user) measures of ergonomics , posture, intervention and exercises.
My areas of interest are conservative approach (lifestyle modification and mechanical offload) in the management of pains in the lower limbs, upper limbs, back, neck, shoulder, knee, and other musculoskeletal disorders. Every pain has a cause. The need is to identify the same by analysis of the lifestyle".read less
