My Braces Journey with Dr. Deep Garg: It all started with a smile I wasn't happy with. Every time I smiled in a photo or talked to someone, my canine tooth was the first thing I noticed. I also chewed my food only on the left side of my mouth. One day I decided I'd had enough and went to Dr. Deep Garg, just to ask about my condition. He sat me down and explained everything in a way I could understand. My teeth were crooked, and my upper jaw was smaller than my lower jaw. I was hoping for clear aligners so no one would know I was having treatment, and he told me that was an option. But he was honest that aligners wouldn't give us the results we expected, so he suggested Damon braces with an expander to open up my upper jaw. I was a little disappointed at first, but I'm glad he recommended what was right for my teeth instead of just what I asked for. In December 2024, my journey began. The first week took some getting used to, and I got a few cuts on my lips and gums. I told myself it would become a habit, and soon it did. Everyone's experience is different, and personally I never felt any pressure during my treatment. Still, I could see my teeth moving into place. For a while I went to the clinic every day so Dr. Garg could open the expander, and he removed it once my jaw had opened enough. At every monthly appointment he changed my steel wire, and I could see how far we had come. I followed his instructions carefully. I wore my elastics, took them off to eat, brushed, and put them back. I gave up meat, nuts and chewing gum also hard foods (I really missed my mint gum!). Whenever he explained something, I repeated it back to him to be sure I understood. He listened patiently and told me anything I had missed. If I forgot which teeth the elastics went on, he explained it again over message. When I had a problem with my braces, he gave me a clear timeline for when to come in and fixed it. His staff was just as patient and listened carefully to everything he said. Dr. Garg told me I was always on time and followed his instructions, so he never had any problem with me. There was one day I'm still a little embarrassed about. I hadn't brushed properly before an appointment, and while cleaning my teeth, Dr. Garg noticed a bad odour. He wasn't angry at all. He was simply doing his duty and told me honestly that it was because I hadn't brushed well. I felt bad in front of him and the staff, and I'm sorry for that mistake. There's a saying that nothing feels like anything until it happens to you, and that day it was true for me. Since then, I brush properly every single time, especially before every visit. So here's my advice: with braces or without, never take oral hygiene for granted. After 1 year and 7 months, my braces came off in July 2026. The Damon braces really made the changes I had hoped for. Today I eat on both sides of my mouth, and my upper teeth sit properly over my lower teeth, just the way they should. For the past month I've been wearing my retainer to keep everything in place. I also learned along the way that I have more patience and commitment than I thought. I honestly can't put into words everything I feel about Dr. Deep Garg. This was an wonderful roller-coaster ride. Thank you, Dr. Garg and team, for making this journey smooth. I'm very proud of my smile now, and I wish you all the best for the future.
