Dr. Vidyashankar B. is probably the only person in Asia who is both a qualified ophthalmologist and a qualified optometrist. He stoood first in the All Maharashtra practicals at DO Examinations. He was awarded the Savitri Rao Award for the Orbit and Oculoplasty session at the AIOS 2011. His paper titled "Clinical Significance of AC/A ratio" was also selected as the Best Free Paper 24th All India Optometry Conference, in Hyderabad in 1991. Dr. Vidyashankar B. organised the All India Oculoplasty Conference in Mumbai in 2010. He has also given the keynote address in several notional and international ophthalmic conferences
