Good evening, As per your your symptoms it might need root canal treatment, but can be confirmed only after seeing you and your xray. In case it is a wisdom tooth,  it can be removed as well.
Next Steps
Go back to the dentist and do as advised by him.
Health Tips
For pain relief now take - 1. Cap Amoxicillin 500mg - Total 12 capsules for 4 days, 1 in the morning, 1 afternoon and 1 in the night. 2. Tablet Imol Plus - Total 6 tablets for 3 days, 1 in the morning and 1 in the night.  Both to be taken after food. Both tablets to be taken after food only. In case you have  gastritis problem after taking these tablets take - Cap Omez 20mg, one tablet per day before food. Stop the tablet Metrogyl now and go to the dentist tomorrow.
