Wisdom teeth extraction
I had my wisdom teeth surgically removed on Friday. It is now Tuesday and still swelling has not reduced. Swelling seems to increase after waking up in the morning. I'm finding it difficult to eat and speak. Kindly advice what to do. Also, should I apply cold or heat to the swollen areas?

Hello Dear, Since 4 days has passed and still swelling is present. This may be a normal sign. Do warm saline rinses thrice a day. Don't do hot fermentation from outside and take medicine as prescribed. Hope it will be resolved soon. Regards, Dr Vishal Jain

Hello. 1) Apply hot pack 2) gargle with luke warm water with little excess salt. 3). Avoid touching the surgical wound with bare fingers as they will be contaminated. Visit a dentist for a review check up. Regards Sunshine Dental Care.

Hello, The swelling will take time to subside. When you sleep Kindly take a pillow and sleep at a 30 degree angulation to avoid swelling after you sleep. Also you can apply ice packs on swelling. Warm saline water rinses after 24 hours of tooth extraction are very helpful. continue it for a week. Also kindly continue with the antibiotics and pain killer which your dentist must have prescribed to you. Discomfort is expected to be there for a week. Hope this information helps you. After a surgical extraction, just like any other surgical procedure, post operative inflammation and discomfort can continue for a few days and is not a worrisome sign..... please make sure to follow the instructions given by your dentist meticulously and also take all the prescribed medications on time..... a follow up examination will also help.... Regards.....

Hello, Usually after surgical extraction the swelling begins to increase for 72 hours i.e 3 days and than gradually it reduces. You don't need to worry much about it You can put ice pack on your check it will help in reducing the swelling and I would recommend you to eat ice cream or any cold thing. Hello, Warm saline rinse or with betadine would definitely help to reduce the swelling. Please take the prescribed medication suggested by your oral surgeon. It's not usual for the swelling to be there for few days but will gradually subside. Take care.
