Vitamin B12 stays in the body for a long time. After taking methylcobalamin 1500 mcg daily for 3 months, your B12 stores usually last 6–12 months, sometimes even longer, because B12 is stored in the liver and used slowly. Even if you stop taking it: Levels do not drop immediately The body releases B12 gradually over months Your starting level (117 pg/ml) was very low, so your body will use some of the stored B12 for recovery, but still the effect lasts at least several months. If you want, tell me your latest B12 level — I can guide whether you still need maintenance doses.

It differs from person to person.  Not a fix guide line. When u  face symptoms add metylcobalamine again.

Hello, I am Dr Romain Rajan, General Physician. Your case has been allotted to me. I understand your concern. You had a very low Vitamin B12 level of one hundred and seventeen pg per ml and took methylcobalamin fifteen hundred mcg for three continuous months. Now you want to know how long B12 stays in the body after completing this course. Advices 1 Maintain a balanced diet with dairy, eggs and pulses to support long term B12 stores. 2 Avoid excessive tea or coffee around meals as they reduce nutrient absorption. 3 Make sure your stomach health is good because absorption from food depends on gut function. What to Monitor 1 Return of tingling or numbness 2 Fatigue or low stamina 3 Mouth ulcers or burning tongue Management Vitamin B12 is a water soluble vitamin, but the body stores it mainly in the liver. When someone with severe deficiency takes methylcobalamin fifteen hundred mcg daily for three months, the B12 stores get replenished and usually • B12 remains in the body for three to six months • In some people it can last longer, depending on diet and absorption • After stopping the supplement, levels decline slowly, not suddenly If your underlying cause of low B12 was poor diet, your levels will stay normal longer. If the cause was poor absorption, acid reflux medicines, or gut issues, levels may drop faster. Most patients who complete a three month high dose course do not need daily B12 afterward. The usual maintenance is • One tablet three times a week for one to two months then • Once weekly or once every fifteen days depending on symptoms If you want, you can repeat a B12 test after three months to confirm your maintenance needs. When to Consult a Doctor Immediately 1 Sudden numbness or weakness 2 Severe fatigue 3 Difficulty walking or balance issues Every patient’s situation is unique. For accurate diagnosis and lasting relief, it is important to discuss your symptoms, diet and medical history in detail. You can reach out to me directly for this case and also connect with me in future for any medical consultation. I am available on Practo or on WhatsApp at 85271646 seven seven for a one on one consultation where you will receive 1 A personalised supplementation plan 2 Safe dose adjustments if required 3 Follow ups to monitor your B12 levels Take care, wishing you good health.
