Hello, From your description, your mother is having fever with cough and yellow phlegm, along with weakness, palpitations, and oxygen levels around 90–92%, which needs careful attention. What this could indicate • Viral fever with chest involvement, leading to airway inflammation and phlegm production • Yellow sputum suggests airway infection or inflammation, which may sometimes require medical review to rule out secondary bacterial infection • SpO₂ of 90–92% is lower than normal (normal is usually 95% and above), especially in a person with fever — this should not be ignored • Palpitations and weakness may be due to fever, dehydration, or the body’s stress response When will fever settle? • Fever due to viral infections usually improves within 3–5 days, but oxygen drop and breathing symptoms need evaluation • If fever persists beyond 5 days, worsens, or breathing becomes more difficult, further medical treatment or investigation may be required • It is important to monitor temperature, pulse rate, and oxygen regularly, and keep her well hydrated Wishing her a smooth and safe recovery. — Dr. Neelesh Guttikonda MD Pulmonary Medicine | Fellowship in Interventional Pulmonology
Next Steps
What you can do now • Ensure good hydration and rest • Keep checking SpO₂ — if it falls below 90 or breathing worsens, seek medical care immediately • A doctor may advise tests like chest examination, chest X-ray, CBC, or CRP to assess infection and oxygen levels
Health Tips
Since oxygen is already in the 90–92% range, it is advisable to consult a chest specialist / physician without delay to ensure her lungs are clear and she is receiving the right medicines. Early review helps prevent complications.
