MCL tear needs minimum 6 weeks of immobilisation. This can be done with a slab or knee immobiliser. Hinged braces or knee braces don't work in presence of MCL tear as continuous movement will not allow healing in anatomical position. Apply ice packs locally. Medications like tendocare will help.

Hi. ACL with mcl tear is very common. Best part is most of the mcl tear are from femoral side and they have very high chance of healing. Mcl tear needs protection in the form of bracing and non weight bearing walking for 4-6 weeks for better healing. That's my protocol. And once I get good range of motion after mcl healing I'll go and do ACL reconstruction if it's completely torn
Next Steps
Long Hinged Knee brace to be applied. See your doctor to find how is the healing going on
Health Tips
Do strengthening exercises for your quadriceps and hamstring muscles till then. It will have very long term effect on your rehabilitation after surgery. Regards Dr Sachin Jain Arthroscopic surgeon and Sports medicine expert, Jaipur Team India doctor for commonwealth games 2018
