ACL Reconstruction and Metal-Free Treatm
I am a national-level kickboxer with a left-knee injury from an improper one-leg landing on July 28, 2026. MRI on August 2 showed a near-total ACL tear, bone bruising with microfractures, significant effusion, and MCL/LCL contusion changes; PCL and menisci were normal. One doctor advised 4 weeks of immobilization, followed by rehabilitation and reassessment, while another recommended ACL reconstruction. I want to know whether the MRI timing and findings are reliable, whether surgery is truly necessary, and whether rehabilitation alone could work for competitive kickboxing. If surgery is needed, which graft, technique, and fixation would best support my return to high-level competition, preferably without permanent metal implants?

Hello Your timing of MRI is correct, cannot comment on the findings without seeing the films Regarding surgery you have to take decision based on your complaints. If you have instability and want to continue your sport then better to get a surgery or you can wait and watch, do rehab and get assessed later to check for instability, as it is not an emergency surgery. My suggestion for a competitive athlete like you with a near total ACL tear and instability definitely need a surgery for quick return to sport, better function and to further prevent complications associated with ACL tear. Graft options are quadriceps autograft is better for high demand individuals like you.
