Hi.. I suspect you have secondary caries( cavity ) under the cap. U will not feel any symptoms as ur tooth is non- vital after the root canal. This must be happening from a very long time so the gum got infected.
Next Steps
Please consult a Dental specialist at the earliest.
Health Tips
X ray won't show much because the cap is covering that part of the tooth.
Gaps between cap and the gums are unusual to happen suddenly. If the cap is older and gums have been receding, it's advisable to change the cap, as you risk damaging the adjacent healthy teeth. If it's a new cap, and gap has only arisen within last 6 months or so, then please check with the dentist if some part of the cap has chipped.
Next Steps
use proxa brushes to clean between the teeth and gums, video on YouTube on how to use is available. visit the dentist if problem persist.
Health Tips
check whether any other adjacent or opposite tooth is also absent. unsupported or unopposed teeth tend to migrate leaving spaces between teeth and gums.
The only conservative approach towards this problem is brushing meticulously in that area so that any plaque or food accumulation gets removed properly. Otherwise this space cannot be corrected unless the old cap is removed and a new cap is fabricated after taking a new impression. This is mainly because a cap cannot be modified inside the mouth other than minor reductions if required.
Please contact your dentist for a proper clinical evaluation of the case and to know the treatment options applicable for you.
Regards.
