The treatment for a tooth cavity depends on the severity and extent of the decay. In some cases, if the cavity is in its early stages and limited to the enamel, it may be possible to remineralize the tooth through proper oral hygiene, fluoride treatment, and dietary modifications. However, if the cavity has progressed and reached the dentin or pulp layer, it generally requires intervention such as a filling or root canal treatment (RCT) to remove the decayed part and restore the tooth's structure. A filling is typically used when the decay is limited to the enamel and dentin layers, while an RCT is performed when the decay has reached the pulp, which contains nerves and blood vessels. During an RCT, the infected pulp is removed, and the root canal is cleaned, filled, and sealed. After an RCT, a tooth may become more fragile and prone to fracture. Therefore, in many cases, a dental crown (cap) is recommended to provide strength and protection to the treated tooth. The crown helps prevent further damage and allows for normal function and aesthetics. The need for a crown after an RCT depends on various factors, including the extent of tooth structure remaining, the location of the tooth in the mouth, and the biting forces it will be subjected to. Your dentist will evaluate your specific case and determine if a crown is necessary.

No, you can’t fix a cavity with caries with / without exposure .A decayed tooth has to be restored with/without RCT. With RCT, the tooth becomes brittle and can crumble under excessive chewing load . But if the tooth has a small cavity, then you may wait for some time after RCT and a good restoration . Your dentist would be the best judge to assess according to the prevailing clinical conditions . But the treatment must be taken to avoid loss of tooth.

please leave the decision on your dentist. It is almost impossible to restore a tooth without filling even if the caries is a pin point size.If the cavity is large and has reached the pulp it is mandatory to go for an R.C.T. Preserving a tooth is as important as preserving any other organ in our body. Its recommended to go for a crown as the tooth progressively becomes brittle after a root canal treatment.A crown reinforces functional strength and prevents tooth from getting cracked.

NO. You cannot fix a tooth cavity without a filling or RCT. However, placement of a cap after RCT is not mandatory but the remaining tooth structure is taken into account before a final decision is reached.

Hi, If the tooth decay is deep, a Root Canal Treatment is mandatory. Following a Root Canal treatment, a temporary cap must be put which can be changed to a permanent cap after the age of 18 years.
